Seminar by Dr. Ronnel King on "Gratitude in the School Context"

The Faculty of Education of the University of Macau invited Dr. Ronnel KING to give a seminar entitled “Gratitude in the School Context” last November 07, 2017 to students and staff. The seminar provided insights on how gratitude can significantly contribute to students’ academic performance. The presentation included relevant studies on utilizing gratitude in the school such as improving student well-being, social relationships, and optimal health. Various practical interventions on gratitude were also introduced to the audience.
Dr. KING also presented his research on the role of gratitude in predicting positive academic outcomes. Using cross-sectional, longitudinal, and experimental approaches, he found that gratitude was consistently linked to higher levels of school motivation, engagement, and achievement. This seminar left the audience with the impression that “being grateful should not be taken for granted” as it can lead to positive academic functioning.
